The Central Weather Administration is warning that a severe geo-magnetic storm could cause power outages and disturbances to satellite and radio operations in the coming days. The storm is forecast to affect Taiwan for about 54 hours.

The weather administration said the geo-magnetic storm was triggered by an Earth-facing sunspot. As a result, communications, the power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations could be disrupted.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has said the geomagnetic storm could reach a G-4 level in strength - the second-highest on the scale, classified as "severe," creating large disturbances.
