Taiwan's exports rose by 4.5% in September to US$40.57 billion. It was the highest level ever for the month of September and marked the 11th consecutive month of year-on-year growth. According to the monthly report from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the rise was partly attributed to strong global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Imports also increased in September, rising 17.3% from the same month in 2023, US$33.45 billion, which was also a record level for September.

September sales of information and communications technology products, mainly AI servers and graphics processing units, rose by 24.8% percent to US$10.31 billion while shipments of electronics, primarily advanced chips intended for high-performance computing and smartphones, rose 4.9% from a year earlier to US$17.06 billion, as the release of Apple Inc’s new iPhone series ramped up business at local providers of chips, camera lenses, printed circuit boards and other components, according to the MOF.

In the first nine months of the year, Taiwan's exports totalled US$349.13 billion, up 10.2% year-on-year, while imports were US$289.54 billion, up 10.1% from a year earlier, according to the data.
