MOEA announces plan to train 25,000 professionals annually
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has announced an initiative to attract 25,000 foreign students to study and eventually to stay and work in Taiwan annually.
The programme is aimed at recruiting students mainly from Southeast Asian countries to help address Taiwan's labour shortage.
According to the economics ministry, its' working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the National Development Council on a two phase programme.
The first phase will see the government establishing industry-specific talent-matching initiatives to assist businesses in retaining international graduates. Under that phase, the government will help students gain workplace experience and provide targeted training to meet industry demands, increasing post-graduation retention in Taiwan.
The second phase of the programme will focus on attracting top students from Southeast Asia, offering them tailored courses to develop the skills required by local industries.
The government will cover all tuition costs, while companies will provide a stipend - and after two years of training, participants can choose to work in Taiwan for an additional two to four years.
