Customs Administration to upgrade services
The Ministry of Finance is planning to launch a five-year "Digital Customs Reconstruction Project" starting from 2025 with a budget of NT$1.2 billion.
The project aims to optimise the system and related hardware equipment that handle over 100 million customs clearance applications annually, accelerating the clearance of goods.
Deputy Customs Administration director Chen Shi-feng says with the continuous rise of cross-border e-commerce, the number of import and export declarations has grown exponentially over the past decade, making the reconstruction project necessary. Chen says it will not only make moving goods in and out of Taiwan faster, safer and more efficient, as well as help businesses save costs.
The most important part of the project is the development of intelligent customs clearance services, including the establishment of a customs data analysis platform, revamping the processing for express cargo and optimising the risk screening mechanism.
