Government to step up semiconductor cooperation with Czech Republic
Cabinet Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin says the government plans to strengthen cooperation with the Czech Republic in semiconductor development based on what he's describing as Prague's pivotal role in the European IC industry.
According to Kung, the move comes as the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland are forming a silicon triangle and as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is building a wafer fab in the German city of Dresden.
Kung says the distance between Prague and Dresden is shorter than that between Berlin and Dresden and as such Taiwan is expected to take advantage of that geographic proximity.
Speaking after returning for a visit to the Czech Republic, the cabinet secretary-general said direct flight from Taiwan to Prague means it's also now convenient for Taiwanese companies to fly one to two hours more from Prague to Dresden.
Kung also said he firmly believes that the Czech Republic can serve as a springboard for Taiwan's semiconductor industry to further penetrate the European market.
