MND minister attends drills
Ministry of National Defense (MND) Minister Wellington Koo is calling on Taiwan's troops to familiarise themselves with new missile launchers before worrying about accuracy.
His comments came as the military kicked off its annual, two-day Tien Ma Exercises in Pingtung's Fangshan Township.
The military tried out two new pieces of US-made military hardware for the first time on the first day to fire tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided 2A missiles, which are now considered an older-generation projectile. The local media was also invited to observe the drills where military personnel fired munitions.
The annual Tien Ma Exercises are important because they serve as a platform for officers to gain practical experience - military personnel can normally only use simulators to train for potential military threats.
