MOENV designing a carbon footprint calculator
The Ministry of Environment says it is designing a carbon footprint calculator as part of an initiative to promote ecofriendly lifestyles.
The calculator aims to highlight how specific lifestyle choices can contribute to a person's carbon footprint and provide practical guidance on reducing it.
A ministry official said the calculator includes aspects such as residential energy use, transportation, diet, daily goods, and other areas and expects it to be rolled out in phases, with each phase adding more features.
The initial release is expected to focus on transportation and diet, which are significant contributors to carbon emissions.
Ministry data shows household consumption accounts for about 66.8% of carbon emissions, with dietary choices alone contributing 16.8%.
Although the tool may not offer exact figures, it can effectively pinpoint the primary contributors to a user's daily carbon emissions.
