Haley expresses support for Taiwan
Visiting former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has been highlighting what she's describing as the "moral clarity" of showing solidarity with Taiwan over China.
Speaking during a meeting with President Lai Ching-te, Haley said while Taiwan is made up of "a courageous group of people that understand the importance of freedom and democracy," China emphasizes "control and suppression."
According to the former US UN Ambassador, the differences between Taiwan and China were particularly apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic as despite being isolated from the world due to Chinese pressure, Taiwan tried to warn the World Health Organization about the deadly virus, while Beijing hid the idea that the virus came from China.
Haley went on to say that her visit to Taiwan this week is to let Taiwanese people know that "American people support Taiwan and the American people want Taiwan to be successful."
