A cross-party delegation of Taiwan lawmakers is heading to the United States to attend this week's US Democratic National Convention, taking place in Chicago.

The Democratic party will vote to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris for president and affirm her choice of Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for vice president in November's election.

The Taiwan delegation is being led by DPP lawmaker Wang Ding-yu, who has taken to Facebook to say he's "honoured to serve as the head of the delegation" and is also stressing the importance of Taiwan-US ties.

Both the DPP and the KMT are sending five delegates to the convention, while one member of the Taiwan People's Party is also part of the Taiwan delegation.

A cross-party delegation of 11 members attended the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last month.
