ECCT members are working together with the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO), EU Member State representative offices, local partners and Taiwan authorities in the process to procure and ship medical supplies and equipment to Europe that are urgently-needed to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

The EETO is exploring possibilities of donations and sourcing of a variety of medical items from Taiwan that are needed in Europe, including ventilators, respirator masks and helmets, patient monitors, diagnostic testing kits, personal protective equipment, laboratory machinery and equipment.

Today, leading European shipping and logistics member companies met to discuss the complex process of collecting, processing and transporting the goods to multiple locations in Europe. DHL, Cargocare, Schenker, Bolloré Logistics, Hapag-Lloyd and Kuehne + Nagel attended the meeting and all pledged to work together to prioritise which items are needed most urgently so that their shipments could be expedited. Their expertise and experience is crucial to ensure the smooth navigation, not only of the airways and seas, but also the complex nature of export, import and customs procedures in various European countries. The process has been made even more complex by disruptions to flight and shipping schedules as a result of the pandemic, which will also complicate the distribution of the products once they arrive in Europe.
