MOFA takes legal action against KMT lawmaker
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a report to the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office, which accuses KMT lawmaker Hsu Chiao-hsin of allegedly violating the Criminal Code by leaking confidential information about Taiwan's aid to Ukraine.
The deputy head of the ministry's Department of Treaty and Legal Affairs says Hsu blatantly disregarded related laws by divulging details of an MOU Taiwan signed with the Czech Republic last December on joint assistance for Ukraine.
The unnamed official said the foreign ministry had clearly listed the MOU's details as confidential and barred from public view, with the document sent to lawmakers in the Legislative Yuan for their reference only.
The foreign ministry says it believes Hsu violated Section One under Article 132 of the Criminal Code. That section stipulates that a public official who discloses or gives away a document of a secret nature relating to matters other than national defence, faces a maximum of three years in prison if convicted.
