Taroko park restoration to cost NT$1 billion
Interior Minister Lin Yu-chang says estimates show that post-earthquake restoration work at the Taroko National Park will cost roughly NT$1 billion. Lin said several hiking trails, facilities and structures in the park were severely damaged during the earthquake.
During a legislative hearing, Lin said the cost of restoring portions of the park are his office's responsibility, and the ministry will be seeking funding of NT$1 billion.
The interior minister failed to offer any further specifics on what infrastructure needs to be repaired and what exactly the funding will cover. However, he told lawmakers that more accurate estimates will not be available until a damage assessment is completed in about two weeks. Lin also stressed that the slow process is due to the many aftershocks in the area which is making surveying a challenge.
