The Ministry of Education (MOE) has promised to develop new guidelines on whether and how artificial intelligence can be used when students participate in various contests.

Deputy MOE Minister Lin Ming-yu says the current digital teaching guidelines do not specify that competitions cannot use AI but he acknowledges the necessity for new guidelines due to the widespread use of AI on campuses.

His comments come after KMT lawmaker Ge Ru-jun (葛如鈞) asked him about the case of Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School, where the champion of the school's art contest was punished for using AI to help his work. Another essay writing contest at a high school also caused controversies as some of the entries were found to be partly created by AI.

Ge (葛) says the MOE should say clearly if students can use AI when taking part in competitions.
