The Ministry of Environment is saying that mobile phone recycling regulations have been postponed to 1 January next year.

The regulations were announced last December, and originally scheduled to take effect yesterday. But mobile industry stakeholders said they needed more time to prepare, particularly in labelling design and establishing recycling organisations.

The regulations set recycling rate targets of 15% by 2025 and 30% by 2030, and introduce fines for violations. The ministry says recycling smartphones lead to better use of resources, lower environmental risks, and reduce carbon emissions. According to the Ministry's data, annual sales of smartphones in Taiwan exceed 6 million units.
