The Consumer Price Index is expected to go up by around 2.03% this year.

The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics says that's not much different than the Central Bank's latest forecast of a CPI increase of 2.16%.

The DGBAS made the announcement after the finalization of the electricity price adjustment plan by the Ministry of Economic Affairs last week.

Legislators from both the ruling and opposition parties have expressed concerns about the potential impact on people's livelihoods and the economy. The DGBAS Minister Zhu Ze-min (朱澤民) reassures people that there will be minimal impact on those with government-sponsored loans.

Zhu says the government will continue to fully subsidize the interest on relief loans for individuals and businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as on student loans and youth home purchase loans, among others.
