Taiwan has been ranked the 31st happiest country globally and the happiest in the East Asia region in the 2024 World Happiness Report.

The report was published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford and gives Taiwan a score of 6.503 out of 10.

Taiwan is the top in the East Asia region, beating out Japan, which had a score of 6.06 and South Korea with a score of 6.058. China's happiness report score came in at 5.973. Globally, Taiwan trailed slightly behind Singapore, which ranked 30th with a score of 6.523.

The Wellbeing Research Centre says the rankings are determined based on the average scores of individuals' self-reported well-being over three years, from 2021 to 2023, to provide more precise estimates. Finland ranked the highest overall for the seventh consecutive year, with a score of 7.741. Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Israel rounded out the top five while Lebanon and Afghanistan were at the bottom.
