The Ministry of Economic Affairs says data shows that Taiwan had 13,706 convenience stores - or one per 1,703 people - as of the end of last year.

According to the ministry, based on Taiwan's population of 23.34 million, convenience store density is now ahead of Japan, but behind South Korea.

The largest convenience store chain is 7-Eleven, with 6,859 stores, with Family Mart taking second place with 4,234 stores as of the end of last year.

The economics ministry says, backed by a 3.4% increase in the number of outlets, Taiwan's convenience store operators generated record revenues of NT$412.6 billion in 2023. That figure was an 8% increase from 2022 and the 14th consecutive year of year-on-year growth.
