Deputy defence chief claims Taiwan air superiority
Taiwan's deputy defence chief said Taiwan has "absolute air superiority", amid concerns over whether Taipei could defend itself against a military incursion by Beijing.
Deputy Ministry of National Defense (MND) Minister Po Horng-huei (柏鴻輝) made the comment at a recent legislative hearing. Po, a retired pilot himself, said any enemy aircraft would be exposed to Taiwan's air defence system and within firing range.
Po addressed concerns about countering the numerical advantage of the PLA in fighter aircraft by highlighting the importance of maintaining high-quality military aircraft over quantity. He also mentioned that the Air Force has trained its pilots in various tactics to counter potential Chinese invasion.
However, leaked Pentagon documents concluded China's air force would find it far easier to establish early air superiority than Russia did in its invasion of Ukraine. Taiwan's MND denounced the leaked documents as "fictitious".
