TSMC-backed programme for German students begins
National Taiwan University has held a welcoming ceremony for the first group of 30 students participating in the Semiconductor Talent Incubation Program. The programme has been developed to train semiconductor talent in the German state of Saxony.
It will entail students from German universities spending a semester studying here in Taiwan followed by a two-month internship at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's fab in Taichung. The programme is a joint initiative of TSMC, the Saxony state government and TU Dresden.
NTU Vice President of International Affairs Yuan Hsiao-wei says the university has established a model for future collaboration between German and Taiwanese universities and students will also have the option to take Chinese-language lessons.
The state of Saxony provides students enrolled in the programme with subsidies for living expenses and travel, but the tuition fee is waived.
