The KMT Legislative caucus has proposed draft bills of parliamentary reform, with particular focuses on penalties for contempt of parliament and perjury.

The draft bills will stipulate that responses to lawmakers' questions during the Q&A sessions should not contain false or deceptive statements. Violations deemed serious will be referred to the judiciary system, and the offender may face imprisonment of up to three years, detention, or a fine of up to NT$300,000.

KMT legislative caucus whip Fu Kun-qi says most people would like to see the Legislative Yuan perform its duties of check and balance, adding that the party will move forward an official draft soon after discussions.

Fu says the bill will also seek to regularize the president's state of the nation report, increase parliamentary investigative power and strengthen the rights to conduct formal hearings where government agencies cannot refuse to present information or answer questions.
