HSR passenger numbers hit record high in 2023

Taiwan’s High Speed Rail Corporation says passenger numbers hit a record-high of 73.03 million last year.
According to the rail network, that resulted in it reporting NT$49.8 billion in revenue and a pretax net profit of NT$9.7 billion for 2023. Both the revenue and a pretax net profit are the highest since the HSR began operations in 2007.
However, the High Speed Rail Corporation says although it broke all previous revenue and a pretax net profit record, it also saw increased operational costs last year. The corporation says maintenance costs registered a NT$2.9 billion increase last year from 2022, and staffing costs rose by 19% last year.
