Tourism Administration targets 12 million tourists in 2024
The Tourism Administration says it's seeking to attract 12 million international tourists this year.
According to administration director-general Zhou Yong-hui, that number includes some two million Chinese tourists, and is slightly above the pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
The government has said it will allow Taiwanese travel agencies to organise tours to China from 1 March. Further details of that policy are slated to be announced next month, but the government says it hopes Beijing will then allow Chinese tourists to once again visit Taiwan.
The Tourism Administration also says it's seeking to attract two million Japanese tourist arrivals this year and is working to promote travel to Taiwan by middle-school students for their overseas school excursions.
Data shows that 6.4 million international tourists came to Taiwan last year. The Tourism Administration will be establishing new tourism offices in Jakarta, Mumbai and Paris this year.
