Critical technologies to face tougher controls
The National Science and Technology Council has unveiled a set of key technologies it says will be subject to tougher controls to prevent technology leaks and boost industrial competitiveness.
The 22 key technologies cover five industries. Those being defence, aerospace, agriculture, semiconductors and information and communications technology.
According to the council, the term "key technologies" refers to tech that, if exported to China, Macau, Hong Kong or "external hostile forces," would significantly harm national security, industrial competitiveness, or economic development.
The council says the list encompasses anti-interference and satellite control technologies, as well as methods used to manufacture semiconductors using advanced manufacturing processes. Agricultural technology has been included on the list because of its connection to food security and the economy.
The release of the list comes after National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo in October announced the government was working on selecting core technologies that need to be protected.
