Taiwan has been ranked the 9th most digitally competitive country for 2023 in the annual evaluation by the Swiss-based International Institute for Management Development.

Taiwan moved up two places in the overall rankings from last year. Fifty-four indicators are used based on three major factors. Taiwan placed third in the technology factor, 18th in the knowledge factor and seventh in the future readiness factor.

Of the 54 indicators used to calculate the rankings, Taiwan took the top spot in total R&D personnel per capita, I-T and media stock market capitalization, mobile broadband subscribers, agility of companies, and use of big data and analytics.

According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Taiwan's leading performances in some of those fields can be attributed to the government's efforts to provide subsidies and other incentives to telecoms companies to construct and expand the 5G network infrastructure.

The ministry also says the assessments in the IMD's latest report will serve as a reference for the government's policymaking, as part of the efforts to develop the country's digital economy and promote information security.
