2023 average earnings fail to keep up with inflation

In September, the average regular earnings of full-time employees with Taiwan nationality (excluding the foreigners and part-time employees) was NT$48,065, an increase of 2.51% from the same month last year. Average irregular earnings such as bonuses and overtime pay was NT$9,754. After adding irregular earnings, the average total earnings was NT$57,819, an increase of 3.85% from than the same month in 2022. In September, the average regular earnings of all employees (including full-time and part-time employees with Taiwan nationality and foreigners) was NT$45,503, which was an increase of 2.49% from the same month last year. After adding irregular earnings of NT$9,194, the average total earnings was NT$54,697, an increase of 3.75% from the same month last year.
From January to September, the average regular earnings of all employees was NT$45,427, an increase of 2.50% from the same period last year, while average total earnings (including bonuses and overtime) increased by 1.57% from the same period last year. However, after adjusting for inflation, real regular earnings increased by only 0.14% from the same period last year, while real average total earnings decreased by 0.78% from the same period last year.
From January to September, the gap of total earnings between full-time employees with Taiwan nationality and all employees was NT$3,494 of which the Manufacturing, Accommodation & Food Service Activities, Education and Human Health & Social Work Activities employed more foreign workers and part-time employees, the differences between them were NT$5,904, NT$4,974, NT$3,597 and NT$3,526, respectively.
Since the working hours of part-time employees were fewer in September, the average regular earnings of part-time employees was NT$19,644. The average regular hourly earnings was NT$199, an increase of 0.51% from the previous month and an increase of 0.51% from the same month last year. After adding irregular earnings, the average total earnings was NT$20,421, a decrease of 2.45% from the previous month and an increase of 6.79% from the same month last year. From January to September, the average regular earnings of part-time employees was NT$19,417.
