CHT to invest NT$3 billion in TV dramas
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) says it's partnering with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency to inject NT$3 billion into the development of domestic television dramas.
According to Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Guo Shui-yi, the investment fund is part of the government's efforts to encourage joint public-private development of domestically produced creative content. Guo says the investment follows comments by Culture Minister Shi Zhi, who noted that telecom providers in South Korea had funded many successful TV dramas there. Speaking to reporters, Guo explained that Shi told him that if "South Korea can do it, Taiwan should be able to do it too."
The investment fund still requires Chunghwa Telecom board approval but Taiwan Creative Content Agency Chair Homme Tsai says funding from joint capital and by mainstream streaming platforms will not be mutually exclusive and an investment review committee will be set up to determine how the money is spent.
CHT has invested in several Taiwanese TV drama series in recent years, including "Port of Lies" and the Golden Bell-winning "Oxcart Trails."
