The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) has introduced new regulations to guide companies and government entities on carbon credits and emissions.

Two major rules were announced. The first allows entities emitting less than 25,000 metric tons of CO2 per year to take part in "voluntary carbon reduction projects." These projects should meet specific quality criteria like "additionality," meaning they go beyond existing laws to reduce emissions.

The second rule obliges new factories and big construction projects emitting over 25,000 metric tons annually to offset their emissions.

They can do this either by buying carbon credits or by taking actions like replacing fuel motorcycles with electric ones. The goal is to make businesses more responsible for driving energy-efficient changes, paving the way for Taiwan to hit its net-zero emissions target.
