Tsai hoping to deepen trade and energy cooperation with the UK
President Tsai Ing-wen says she believes that "there is more room for Taiwan and the UK to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade and energy."
The comments come as Tsai has been holding talks with visiting UK Trade Envoy to Taiwan Richard Faulkner. Faulkner arrived in Taiwan last week for trade talks and to attend the 18th
UK-Taiwan Renewable Energy Conference in Taipei.
Speaking during a meeting with the U-K trade envoy, Tsai cited the opening of official talks on the Taiwan-UK Enhanced Trade Partnership in July and Faulkner's strong support for that agreement, which focuses on energy and net-zero emissions, and digital trade.
Tsai also praised the UK's ongoing diplomatic support for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly and for "underlining the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."
Faulkner is scheduled to attend the UK-Taiwan Net Zero Academic Research Forum later today before leaving Taiwan on Thursday.
