Real 2023 average earnings not keeping pace with inflation

In July, the average regular earnings of full-time employees with Taiwan nationality (excluding the foreigners and part-time employees) were NT$48,118, an increase of 2.63% from the same month last year, according to a report from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS). Irregular average earnings were NT$14,264. After adding the irregular earnings, the average total earnings of full-time employees was NT$62,382, an increase of 1.84% from the same month last year.
Meanwhile average regular earnings of all employees (including full-time and part-time employees with Taiwan nationality and foreigners) was NT$45,520, an increase of 2.51% from July 2022. Irregular earnings averaged NT$13,701, leading to total average earnings of NT$59,221, an increase of 1.66% from the same month last year. Of these, regular hourly earnings of part-time employees were NT$197, an increase of 0.51% from the same month last year, according to the DGBAS.
From January to July, average regular monthly earnings of all employees was NT$45,381, an increase of 2.47% from than the same period in 2022 while average total earnings increased by 1.57% from than the same period last year. However, after adjusting for inflation, real regular earnings increased by just 0.21% from the same period last year, while real average total earnings actually decreased by 0.67% from the same period last year.
