Government pledges support for semiconductor sector
Premier Chen Chien-ren today highlighted that Taiwan will strengthen its already significant role in the global semiconductor industry through inter-ministerial cooperation. He was speaking at the opening of SEMICON Taiwan 2023.
He says the aim is to create an optimal environment for the sector, which is facing challenges from the pandemic and geopolitical issues, but also opportunities from artificial intelligence, 5G, and autonomous driving.
The government is also focused on protecting intellectual property and nurturing tech talents.
Recent initiatives include the passage of the "Taiwan Chip Act" and the launch of a semiconductor innovation plan aimed at enhancing IC design capabilities within the next decade.
SEMICON Taiwan 2023 opened today and runs until Friday, hosting its largest ever expo at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
