The European Union has approved up to €1.5 billion in state aid to Taiwan-based tech company ProLogium, to make batteries for electric vehicles. That's equivalent to NT$52 billion.

ProLogium says the aid package will be used in a €5.2 billion investment plan in France, which includes R&D and the construction of a battery factory. The company says it is scheduled to break ground on the factory in 2024 as its first large-scale solid-state battery manufacturing plant outside Asia, with production set to begin by 2026.

ProLogium adds that it has already built the world's first 1 and 2 gigawatt-hour solid-state lithium ceramic battery factory in Taoyuan at a cost of NT$4.2 billion with production there expected to begin later this year.
