Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MOL) Minister Hsu Ming-chun says the fifth Taiwan-European Union Labour Consultation focused on Taiwan's approach to its labour shortage and its employment of migrant caregivers. The talks took place in Brussels.

Hsu says the talks differed from previous years, when Taiwan's representatives were more interested in learning about labour protection from their European counterparts.

Hsu says EU representatives this year were interested in Taiwan's policy of pushing for the employment of older workers to address its labour shortage, and in Taiwan's importation of migrant caregivers to meet the growing demand for long-term care of the elderly.

The EU delegation was led by Joost Korte, the head of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

The MOL says private European groups were also invited to the consultation for the first time.

The Taiwan-EU Labour Consultation was launched in 2018.
