May unemployment rate falls to 3.46%

Taiwan’s official unemployment rate declined by 0.04 percentage points month-on-month to 3.46% in May, according to a news release by the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS). Compared with the same month in 2022, the unemployment rate declined by 0.22 percentage points. The number of unemployed persons was 412,000 in May, a decrease of 5,000 and 22,000 from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

According to the DGBAS, the labour force participation rate declined by 0.05 percentage points month-on-month to 59.13% in May although it rose by 0.08 percentage points from the same month last year. Total employment increased by 1,000 (0.01%) month-on-month in May to 11,507,000 and by 136,000 (1.20%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
