The Ministry of Labor (MOL) has rejected the proposal of a 4-day workweek initiative. The MOL cites potential negative impacts on various industries in Taiwan, including education, transportation, healthcare, and government agencies.

Speaking in a press conference today, MOL official Huang Wei-chen says the consensus reached after discussions with relevant agencies and industries is that now is not a good time for implementing a 4-day workweek. But he also suggests that private businesses offer employees more flexible working hours, according to the TVBS report.

The MOL's response comes after an initiative for a shortened workweek on the public policy participation platform quickly gathered more than five thousand signatures, the threshold requiring an official response.
