TV cable subscriptions hit new low
19 May, 2023
The National Communications Commission reports that cable TV subscriptions have hit a new low of 4.6 million in the first quarter of 2023.
This marks the 22nd consecutive quarter of decline, despite the cable TV penetration rate remaining above 50% in Taiwanese households.
The six largest cable operators, including Homeplus Digital and Taiwan Broadband Communications, experienced the biggest subscriber losses.
The NCC recognizes the growing influence of streaming platforms, but plans to encourage operators' transformation with incentives and digital value-added services to combat the ongoing decline.
Cable subscriptions in Taiwan peaked at 5.2 million in 2017 but have seen a steady decline ever since.
