Taiwan top target for cyber attacks in 1Q23
IT security firm Check Point says data shows that Taiwan was the number one target of cyberattacks globally during the first quarter of this year.
Check Point says its researchers recorded 3,250 cyberattacks per organisation in Taiwan each week in the first quarter. That figure was a 24% year-over-year increase and 160% higher than the global average.
Check Point says cybercriminals are finding ways to "weaponize legitimate tools for malicious gains". The company also says developments in artificial intelligence have also facilitated cybercriminal activities, as less-skilled individuals can deploy ChatGPT to generate code for cyberattacks.
Check Point's researchers found organizations in the education and research sectors were the most targeted, receiving 2,507 attacks each week in the first quarter. That was followed by the government/military, healthcare and communications.
