Uni-President takeover of Carrefour approved

The Fair Trade Commission has approved a deal for the Taiwanese conglomerate Uni-President Group to take full ownership of hypermarket operator Carrefour Taiwan with several conditions attached.
In a press release, the cabinet-level commission said the acquisition was conditionally approved during a commissioners' meeting, with efforts made to protect the rights and interests of small and medium-sized suppliers.
The FTC said that to prevent monopolistic price gouging, the business group must not take advantage of its dominant distribution channel to discriminate against other suppliers without legitimate reasons.
