Wholesale sales down, retail up in March

Sales of wholesale trade were NT$1.0164 trillion in March 2023, a decrease of 13.3% compared with the same month in 2022, according to a report from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Sales of machinery & equipment fell 21.7% while sales of construction materials dropped 17.9%. However, sales of vehicles (cars and motorcycles) bucked the trend in the overall wholesale sales category, rising by 21.3%. In addition, retail trade sales rose by 7.1% to NT$368.5 billion in March on a year-on-year basis while sales of food and beverage services rose by 9.8% to NT$76.6 billion in the same month.
