The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) says a preparatory office for the Climate Change Administration will be launched on Saturday.
The launch of the office has been timed to coincide with Earth Day. When fully operational it will be part of the soon-to-be-established Ministry of the Environment and be tasked with drafting regulations to oversee carbon fees.
The announcement comes after lawmakers completed a review of the "organic act of the ministry of the environment" late last month.
hat review paved the way for the establishment of the Ministry of the Environment and related agencies, including the Climate Change Administration. However, the bill has yet to pass its third and final reading, and officials say the preparatory office will be opened early in order to "minimize changes during the transition period."
