Energy saving trial for restaurants begins
17 April, 2023
The Ministry of Economics Affairs says participating restaurants and food courts are required to set their air-conditioning at 23 degrees during dining hours from today.
The move is a trial programme that could pave the way for a permanent legal measure in 2025.
The ministry introduced new energy saving regulations in 2014 and that set air conditioning at above 26 degrees for 20 types of venues. However, restaurants were exempted from the rule during peak dining hours.
The ministry says 1,300 venues from 32 brands islandwide have committed to the trial, which will run until the end of 2024.
