The Tourism Bureau says it’s been seeing a marked rise in the number of people travelling overseas in the first two months of the year.

According to the bureau, data shows that the number of overseas departures during the January-February period totalled 1,349,417. That figure was 15 times higher than the same period of last year, when a total of 85,287 departures were recorded.

Japan was the most popular destination in both January and February, accounting for 38.5% of all departures. That was followed by Thailand and South Korea, which both registered 7.5% of the total departures. Other popular destinations included Hong Kong, Vietnam and China.
