Smart City & Expo opens

The 2023 Smart City & Expo is underway in Taipei and Kaohsiung.

 

The opening in Taipei ceremony was attended by economics minister Wang Mei-hua, Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an and some 80 mayors and deputy mayors from around the world. Speaking at the ceremony, Chiang touted local electronics manufacturer Wistron's building of a digital content innovation centre in cooperation with the Industrial Technology Research Institute.

 

According to Chiang, the facility is expected to begin operation in 2026 and the city government will be injecting more than NT$1.3 billion in funds to support some 150 startups.

The 2023 Smart City & Expo is taking place at the Taipei Nankang Exhibition Center until Friday and at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center until Saturday.

 

The expo has seen record-breaking participation from international guests. Over 1,500 international VIPs, buyers, and 115 mayors and deputy mayors from 43 countries were in attendance for the opening of the event. The 2023 Smart City Summit & Expo, and the Net Zero City Expo showcase Taiwan's achievements in smart and net-zero city development, focusing on comprehensive solutions to drive industry and economic growth.
