Taiwan and Germany sign legal assistance pact
Taiwan and Germany have signed a mutual legal assistance agreement related to assistance on criminal matters. The agreement was signed by Taipei's representative office in Germany and the German Institute Taipei.
The Ministry of Justice says the agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation in judicial investigations and extradition proceedings. It's the seventh such mutual legal assistance agreement that Taiwan has signed with European countries. Justice Minister Cai Qing-xiang, who witnessed the pact's signing, says mutual legal assistance agreement also marks a joint effort by Taiwan and Germany to upgrade bilateral cooperation in judicial matters building on a previous agreement.
The two sides signed the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Cooperation in the Enforcement of Penal Sentences in November of 2013.
