The cabinet has announced that people can register their information on the official website for the distribution of NT$6,000 tax rebate next week.

The website, 6000.gov.tw., will start accepting registrations at 8AM on 22 March, and all Taiwan nationals, diplomats, foreign spouses and permanent residency holders can sign up using their national ID card or Alien Resident Certificate numbers.

To prevent a computer crash, registrations will be separated based on the last digits of their ID numbers during the first five days. Afterwards all people are eligible to register.

Cabinet officials say the fund will then directly go into their bank accounts once it becomes available. People can also get the money from ATMs and the post office.

In remote areas where there are no such facilities, residents need to go to their local police office to sign up. Officials say the official website should stay open for at least six months.
