Taipei plans to double "baby bonus"
The Taipei City Government (TCG) says it plans to increase the "baby bonus" paid to parents at the birth of their first child.
The one-off payment will be raised from the current NT$20,000 to NT$40,000 from 4 April. When the increase takes effect, families with household registration in Taipei will receive a lump sum of NT$40,000 at the birth of their first child, NT$45,000 if they have a second baby, and NT$50,000 for a third. The plan is still pending approval by the Taipei City Council and the city's Department of Civil Affairs says an estimated 23,210 households in Taipei are expected to obtain the increased baby bonuses after it is approved.
According to the Taipei City Government, it is seeking to increase funding for the "baby bonus" programme from the current NT$410 million to NT$838.4 million.
