Unemployment rate falls to 3.5%

Taiwan’s unemployment rate declined by 0.02 percentage points month-on-month and 0.11 percentage points year-on-year to 3.50% in January while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.60%. According to a news release from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS), the number of unemployed persons was 416,000 in January, a decrease of 2,000 (-0.47%) and 14,000 (-3.22%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

According to the new release, total employment increased by 20,000 (+0.17%) in January to 11,471,000. However, it decreased by 3,000 (-0.03%) when compared with that of the previous year. The labour force participation rate in January remained unchanged at 59.17% from the previous month and that of the previous year.
