Military joins Turkey relief efforts
The Taiwanese military is participating in the government's ongoing efforts to provide post-disaster relief to Turkey.
It will be transporting in-kind donations for survivors of a devastating earthquake that struck the country last week.
A military spokesman says the army is providing military trucks and personnel to assist the Tzu Chi Foundation to transport the donations for shipment to Turkey.
The Turkish Trade Office in Taipei says the disaster relief supplies are being collected by the Buddhist charity foundation and flown to Turkey.
The office says other necessities such as beds, sleeping bags and pads, mattresses, blankets, thermos flasks, flashlights, cleaning supplies, diapers, sanitary pads and other personal hygiene items are also being sought.
On 6 February, Turkey and neighbouring Syria were hit by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that toppled buildings and killed more than 33,000 people.
