The Ministry of Finance (MOF) says a tax incentive programme aimed at encouraging people to purchase energy-efficient household appliances will be extended until 14 June 2025.

The programme was introduced in 2019 and had been due to expire on 14 June of this year. Under the programme, consumers can receive a commodity tax reduction of between NT$500 and NT$2,000 when they purchase new refrigerators, air conditioners, or dehumidifiers that meet Level 1 or 2 energy-saving standards.

Those standards are specified under the Ministry's Bureau of Energy's energy-efficiency rating programme.

Data from the Ministry of Economic Affairs shows that 25% of the total home appliances in use in Taiwan are more than 10 years old.
