Transport Minister Wang Kwo-tsai has announced plans by the Tourism Bureau to offer incentives to attract international tourists.

According to Wang, the incentives will be funded by surplus national tax revenue from last year. Wang says the incentives are aimed at both group and individual travellers.

The Tourism Bureau is hoping to subsidize overseas travel agencies that organize tours to Taiwan and Taiwanese travel agencies that host inbound travellers.

The bureau is also seeking to offer them EasyCards and vouchers for use in tour buses and to issue vouchers for international tourists to purchase Taiwan-grown fruit from convenience stores.

The announcement comes after the Tourism Bureau recently said that its hoping to attract 6 million international travellers to Taiwan this year. The incentive programme still needs to be reviewed by lawmakers.
