Cabinet approves Xizhi-Donghu MRT line
The cabinet has approved the construction of the Xizhi to Donghu MRT Line.
The cabinet says construction of the six stop 5.5-kilometer line will have a total budget of NT$37.69 billion and is expected to be built next to Donghu station on the Taipei metro's brown line.
Final approval for the project came after the New Taipei City revised the plan twice and following review by the Ministry of Transport and the National Development Council.
When complete, the line will link Taipei's Neihu District to Xizhi District in New Taipei and eventually connect to the planned Keelung Metro.
New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih says Xizhi residents have been waiting for the approval for the line for more than 20 years, and construction is expected to be completed within nine and half years.
